Sunlight Productions was founded by Wendel Martinez Carvalho in 2023 to bring his eclectic, lifelong musical catalog together under one roof.
Wendel Martinez Carvalho is a Brazilian composer, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer whose musical journey began at a young age. In the mid-1990s, at around 14 years old, he transitioned from being a dedicated teenage rock and heavy metal fan to studying classical guitar. This formal training introduced him to the universe of classical music. Beyond mastering the repertoire of history's great composers, Wendel deepened his theoretical knowledge, studying advanced orchestral arrangement, counterpoint, modulation, and functional harmonization. He also learned to read and write sheet music for classical guitar as well as full orchestral instrumentation.
During this formative period, collaborating with peers in music theory classes sparked a deep interest in jazz and traditional and contemporary Brazilian music. Wendel dove into the complex harmonies of these genres, which eventually opened the door to Eastern modal music—particularly the classical and traditional Indian, Arabic, and Persian music. These styles expanded his focus toward complex rhythmic structures, elements often sidelined in Western classical traditions.
Swept up in the vibrant, cross-genre creativity of the 1990s, Wendel also immersed himself in the electronic music and hip-hop scenes. This passion, combined with entering a university program for Information Technology, drove his early research into computer-based music production. Throughout the 2000s, he mastered electronic score editors, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), plugins, and sample libraries, balancing a corporate IT career with a burgeoning passion for music.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in early 2020, the period of global crisis and reflection prompted Wendel to reevaluate his path. Despite the inherent risk of leaving a successful IT career, he chose to pivot completely to music. He invested his savings into professional music production training, high-end equipment, instruments, and software. Since then, he has been composing and producing a diverse portfolio of music, with a sharp focus on instrumental themes tailored for films, games, television, and advertising.
Leveraging his IT background, Wendel also analyzed the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence in music. While others feared an artistic apocalypse, Wendel concluded that human creativity remains irreplaceable: current AI-generated music is inherently generic and predictable—the exact opposite of his own compositions.
